How to play Fall bingo

Fall bingo is the autumn game that is not about Halloween, so it works from September through November and in classrooms where some families skip October 31. The 40 words cover the whole season: things to find outside (acorns, pine cones, a maple leaf, geese flying south), fall activities (apple picking, a corn maze, a hayride, raking a leaf pile), cozy clothes, and a few science words such as migrate, harvest moon and autumn equinox. Use it for a fall festival, a harvest party, a preschool circle time or an indoor-recess day when it is too rainy to jump in the leaves.

1. Pick a grid: 3×3 for preschool, 4×4 for kindergarten, 5×5 with a free space from first grade up.
2. Print 2 per page and use dried beans, small acorns or candy corn as markers.
3. Call words with the on-screen caller. For young kids, hold up a real leaf or pine cone when you call it.
4. The first full line wins. Play on for four corners or a blackout.

Tips for a better game

• Nature-walk version: no caller. Kids carry a card outside and mark everything they actually find.
• Science tie-in: when you call "Migrate" or "Shorter days", ask the class why it happens in fall.
• Fall festival booth? Generate 30 cards at once and reuse them each round with fresh markers.
